Thomas F. Kearns, Jr. Director Thomas F. Kearns, Jr. has served on our board of directors since November 1996, as lead independent director from June 2017 until August 2019, and as Chairperson of our board of directors from August 2019 until January 2020. Mr. Kearns is a retired Partner of The Bear Stearns Companies, Inc., an investment banking firm, where he was an investment banker in the healthcare area from 1974 until 1987. Prior to his career at Bear Stearns, Mr. Kearns worked for Merrill Lynch, an investment banking firm, from January 1959 until August 1969. Mr. Kearns was Chairman of the National Advisory Board of Carolina Performing Arts at the University of North Carolina from 2008 until 2015. Mr. Kearns was a Trustee of the University of North Carolina Foundation and Endowment Fund for 16 years. He served on the board of directors of Biomet Inc. from January 1980 until May 2005, and he served on the board of directors of Franklin Street Partners from 2013 until 2018. Christine L. Chung Senior Vice President, China Operations Ms. Chung, Senior Vice President, China Operations, and General Manager of our subsidiary company, FibroGen China, joined the company in 2007 and brings more than 25 years of experience in growing businesses from start-up through various phases of corporate development. Ms. Chung served as Project Leader of our China Roxadustat Chronic Kidney Disease program and has overall responsibility for our FibroGen China operations. Under Ms. Chung’s leadership, our China strategy has advanced from conceptualization through commercial launch. Prior to joining FibroGen, Ms. Chung was Vice President, Business Development, at eMed Technologies and a management consultant with Monitor Group, the predecessor company of Monitor Deloitte. Ms. Chung received her B.A., magna cum laude, from Harvard University and is a native of Hong Kong. Close

Pat Cotroneo Chief Financial Officer Mr. Cotroneo is our Chief Financial Officer, with responsibility for finance and accounting operations, Human Resources, and Information Technology. Mr. Cotroneo joined FibroGen in 2000 and has served as our CFO since 2008. Mr. Cotroneo brings 25 years experience in senior financial management in the life sciences sector. Prior to joining FibroGen, Mr. Cotroneo was at SyStemix, Inc. where he assumed Controller responsibilities for both SyStemix and for Genetic Therapy, Inc. (now Novartis) from 1993 to 2000. Prior to Novartis, Mr. Cotroneo was employed for seven years by Deloitte. Mr. Cotroneo received a B.S. degree with honors from the University of San Francisco and was selected as a Louise M. Gerald Lema Director Gerald Lema has served on our board of directors since September 2017. Mr. Lema has more than 30 years of pharmaceutical, diagnostics, healthcare, and consumer experience in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, the U.S., and Latin America. Mr. Lema currently serves as the Chairman and Managing Director of Windward Capital Ventures, a private investment fund based in Tokyo focused on biotechnology and technology ventures. Mr. Lema is also a Director of Catalyst, a global nonprofit organization. Prior to Windward Capital Ventures, Mr. Lema served as Corporate Vice President and President, Asia Pacific at Baxter International from 2005 until 2015. He also served as Chairman and President, Japan at Baxter International since April 2007. Before Baxter, Mr. Lema worked for 18 years at Abbott Laboratories where he held several positions of increasing responsibility in general management, strategy, and business development. His last position with Abbott was Corporate Vice President, Asia Pacific and Chairman, Abbott Japan, in Tokyo. He is co-author of Foreign Investment through Debt-Equity Swaps, and published in the MIT Sloan Management Review. Mr. Lema is a graduate of the Stanford University Executive Program, earned an M.B.A. from the Freeman School of Business at Tulane University, and has a B.S. degree in Engineering from Universidad del Valle, Colombia. Leanne C. Price, J.D. Chief Intellectual Property Officer Ms. Price, Chief Intellectual Property Officer, joined FibroGen in 1999. She has approximately 25 years of in-house and law firm experience with an emphasis on patent portfolio development and defense and intellectual property strategy in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. Ms. Price was previously Senior Patent Attorney at Incyte Pharmaceuticals, where she was responsible for global management of Incyte’s core technology portfolio. Prior, Ms. Price was an associate at the Silicon Valley law firm of Skjerven Morrill MacPherson Franklin & Friel LLP, focused on the areas of patent prosecution and defense, licensing, and intellectual property counseling. Ms. Price received a B.S. in Molecular Biology and a B.A. in History Honors with high distinction from Revelle College at the University of California, San Diego. She received her J.D. from Boalt Hall, School of Law (University of California, Berkeley). Ms. Price is a member of the State Bar of California and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Close

Enrique Conterno Chief Executive Officer and Director Enrique Conterno joined FibroGen, Inc. as our Chief Executive Officer and member of our board of directors in January 2020. Before coming to FibroGen, Mr. Conterno was a Senior Vice President for Eli Lilly and Company, serving as President of Lilly USA from January 2017 and President of Lilly Diabetes from 2009 until his retirement from Lilly in December 2019. Prior to 2009, Mr. Conterno served in various other roles for Eli Lilly and Company, including President, U.S. Operations, Vice President for the U.S. Neuroscience Business Unit, President and General Manager, Mexico, and Executive Marketing Director, Intercontinental Operations and Japan. Mr. Conterno earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University and an M.B.A. degree from Duke University. Mr. Conterno is a member of the Board of Governors at the American Red Cross. Close

Richard Farley Vice President, Human Resources Mr. Farley is Vice President, Human Resources, and joined FibroGen in 2015. Mr. Farley has more than 30 years of human resources experience at several leading companies. Prior to joining FibroGen, Mr. Farley served as Vice President, Human Resources, at XenoPort, Inc. Previously, Mr. Farley worked at Amgen, where he oversaw HR activities for numerous Research and Development groups in Thousand Oaks, Seattle, and Burnaby, Canada. Mr. Farley has also held human resource and administrative leadership roles at ViroPharma (now Shire Plc), Sphinx Pharmaceuticals (now Eli Lilly), Eli Lilly and Company, and Hewlett Packard. Mr. Farley holds a B.S. degree in Industrial and Labor Relations from Syracuse University and an M.B.A. from Duke University. Close

John Hunter, Ph.D. Chief Scientific Officer John Hunter, Ph.D., Chief Scientific Officer, joined FibroGen in July 2021. Dr. Hunter oversees FibroGen’s scientific and preclinical efforts. He brings more than 20 years of global biopharmaceutical leadership and experience, with deep expertise in drug discovery. Dr. Hunter previously served as Chief Executive & Scientific Officer of Keyhole Therapeutics Inc. Prior to Keyhole, John spent 8 years at Compugen Limited, where he was most recently Chief Scientific Officer & US Site Head. Prior to joining Compugen, Dr. Hunter served as a Senior Director at XOMA. He began his industry career at Millennium Pharmaceuticals. He received his bachelor’s degree in Biology from Hartwick College and his Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from University of California San Francisco. Close

Juan Graham Chief Financial Officer Juan Graham, Chief Financial Officer, joined the company in September 2021, overseeing all finance operations for FibroGen. Mr. Graham brings nearly 20 years of global biopharmaceutical financial management and strategic planning experience. Prior to joining FibroGen, Mr. Graham held the position of Global Chief Financial Officer / Vice President Finance Supply Chain at Johnson & Johnson, Inc. Prior to 2019, Juan served in various roles at Johnson & Johnson, Inc. including VP Finance & Business Development, Senior Finance Director, J&J Development Corporation / J&J Innovation, and Finance Director, Mergers & Acquisitions. Mr. Graham received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education. Rory B. Riggs Director Rory B. Riggs has served on our board of directors since October 1993. Since April 2010, Mr. Riggs has served as founder and Chief Executive Officer of Syntax, LLC and Locus Analytics, LLC, sister development-stage ventures focused on creating a new information technology platform for business and finance. Mr. Riggs is co-founder of Royalty Pharma, the largest acquirer of drug royalties, and Cibus Global Ltd., the leading company in gene editing in agriculture. In addition, he sits on the following other boards of directors: Intra-Cellular Therapies, Inc., StageZero Life Sciences, Ltd., and eReceivables, LLC (Chair). Since June 2006, Mr. Riggs has also served as managing member of Scientia Ventures LLC, a series of venture funds focused on biotechnology and healthcare. Mr. Riggs served as the President of Biomatrix, Inc., a biomedical company, from 1996 until 2000. From 1991 to 1995, he was Chief Executive Officer of RF&P Corporation, an investment company owned by the Virginia Retirement System. He was also Managing Director of PaineWebber and Company in the mergers and acquisitions department. Tricia Stewart Chief People Officer Tricia Stewart, Chief People Officer, joined the company in May 2021, and is responsible for advancing our people and culture efforts, including leadership development; diversity, equity and inclusion; our employee experience; talent acquisition and retention; and performance management. Ms. Stewart has more than 25 years of human resources experience. Prior to joining FibroGen, Ms. Stewart has served in various roles at Genentech, including VP HR Pharma International in Basel, Switzerland, VP HR Product Development in South San Francisco, and Head of Global Mobility in Basel, Switzerland. Tricia holds a B.A. degree in Economics from Fairfield University; and International Business certification from Regent’s College, and Co-active Coaching Training certification at CTI in London. Al Y. Lin, M.D., Ph.D. Senior Vice President, Drug Development Dr. Lin, Senior Vice President, Drug Development, oversees preclinical research and development (R&D) and Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC) development, and quality and supply chain management functions. Dr. Lin joined FibroGen in 1999, and has more than 30 years of drug discovery, development, and clinical experience. Prior to joining FibroGen, he was Head of In Vivo Pharmacology at Bayer and served as a senior scientist at XOMA Corporation. He received his Ph.D. from St. Louis University and post-doctoral training at the University of Virginia. He completed his clinical residency training at and received his medical degree from Nanjing Medical University, China. Dr. Lin is a native of Nanjing, China. Close
