Most Frequently Asked Questions

About FibroGen's Synthetic Gelatins

What types of synthetic gelatins are available?
Currently, synthetic gelatin molecules with the following molecular weights are available for purchase online: 8.5 kd and 100 kd. Others are available upon request.

What is the source of synthetic gelatin?
cDNA fragments encoding different segments of the human proalpha1(I) chain of type I collagen are expressed in Pichia pastoris.

What form does the synthetic gelatin come in?
Synthetic gelatin is available in lyophilized form.

What is the purity of the product?
The purity is >95% as judged by SDS-PAGE.

How should these products be stored?
Lyophilized synthetic gelatin can be stored at room temperature. Once dissolved, it should be stored in the freezer (-20°C). Avoid freeze and thaw cycles.

Is lyophilized synthetic gelatin shelf-stable?
Yes, with proper handling, the lyophilized form of synthetic gelatin should be shelf-stable for at least 2 years.

Can synthetic gelatin molecules be used in humans?
FibroGen can provide clinical-grade synthetic gelatin for clinical studies in humans. The materials available for purchase online, however, are for research purposes only and not for human use. Please contact our Business Development group for more information about clinical-grade materials: info@fibrogen.com or 1-650-866-7291.

Are synthetic gelatins available in commercial quantities?
Yes. Customers who are looking to purchase larger quantities of synthetic gelatin are urged to contact FibroGen's Business Development group: info@fibrogen.com or 1-650-866-7291.

Are discounts offered for larger orders?
FibroGen extends contract pricing for commercial scale quantities of its synthetic materials.

Does FibroGen ship internationally?
Yes. Please note that Buyer assumes sole responsibility for customs requirements of their respective countries.

About FibroGen's Recombinant Human Collagens

What types of recombinant human collagen are available?
Currently, types I and III are available. In the future, others will be made available.

What is the source of recombinant collagen?
Type I: DNA sequences encoding the human proalpha1(I), proalpha2(I) and both alpha and beta subunits of prolyl hydroxylase were co-expressed in the yeast Pichia pastoris. Procollagen I was converted into mature collagen by a controlled proteinase digestion.

Type III: DNA sequences encoding the human proalpha1(III) and both alpha and beta subunits of prolyl hydroxylase were co-expressed in the yeast Pichia pastoris. Procollagen III was converted into mature collagen by a controlled proteinase digestion.

What is the concentration of collagen in recombinant human collagen?
The concentration of both collagen products is approximately 3 mg/mL ±0.3 mg/mL. This will vary slightly by lot. See bottle label for specific lot information.

What form does the recombinant human collagen come in?
Recombinant human collagen is available in a 10 mM HCL solution

What is the purity of the product?
The purity is >95% as judged by SDS-PAGE.

How should these products be stored?
Recombinant human collagen should be stored at 2°C - 8°C.

Can expired product be used?
Expired recombinant human collagen may not perform as described, and FibroGen does not support its use.

Can recombinant human collagen reagents be used in humans?
No. FibroGen's products are intended for laboratory research purposes only and are not to be used in humans or for any other purposes, including but not limited to, in vitro diagnostic purposes, foods, drugs, medical devices or cosmetics or animals or for commercial purposes.

What about the availability of larger quantities?
Customers who are looking to purchase larger quantities of recombinant human collagen are urged to contact FibroGen's business development department.

Does FibroGen ship internationally?
Yes. Please note that Buyer assumes sole responsibility for customs requirements of their respective countries.
