Fibrotic disorders
CTGF stimulates the production of collagen, fibronectin, and laminin, key components of the extracellular matrix and critical to scar formation, as part of the normal wound healing response and tissue repair. However, when these processes go awry, CTGF is overexpressed and causes excessive production and accumulation of scar material, leading to chronic fibrosis, a debilitating condition that can eventually cause failure of the affected organ. FibroGen's research on novel therapies to treat fibrosis has resulted in the discovery and development of FG-3019, the Company's first anti-CTGF therapeutic in clinical development for lung fibrosis.
