Diabetic Complications
A growing body of scientific evidence from FibroGen and others implicates CTGF as a central mediator of multiple pathologies underlying common complications of diabetes including: diabetic nephropathy, the leading cause of end-stage renal disease; diabetic retinopathy, the leading cause of blindness and visual disability; and cardiovascular disease, which accounts for some 65% of deaths among people with diabetes in industrialized nations. FibroGen is focused on the discovery and development of novel therapies designed to block CTGF for the treatment of chronic diabetic complications. FibroGen has initiated clinical testing of FG-3019, the Company's lead anti-CTGF therapeutic candidate, in patients with diabetic nephropathy.
