FG-3019 is a recombinant fully human antibody to connective
tissue growth factor (CTGF). FG-3019 is designed to bind to and
neutralize CTGF, a protein that plays a key role in fibrosis.
Fibrosis is the excessive and persistent formation and deposition
of scar tissue, which can lead to organ failure and death. In animal
models of lung, kidney, and systemic fibrosis, including fibrosis
of the heart and liver, treatment with FG-3019 reduces scar tissue
formation and preserves organ structure and function.
Phase 1 Study
FibroGen has completed a Phase 1 study of FG-3019 in patients with IPF
and found the study drug to be safe and well tolerated. Results of the
study were presented at CHEST 2004.
